堪薩斯皇家11日（台北時間）與白襪隊打完9局，以1比1平手，進入延長賽，擅長在延長賽投球的王建民會出場嗎？王建民已經休息7天未登板了。
白襪在3局上轟陽春砲得1分，皇家在8局下靠著2支二壘安打攻得1分扳平。
皇家先發投手甘迺迪（Ian Kennedy）投6.1局失1分，佛萊(Brian Flynn)投0.1局被1支安打，彼得（Peter Moylan）後援0.1局飆三振化解。楊恩(Chris Young)及赫雷拉（Kelvin Herrera）各投1局未失分。
王建民近15天只有出賽1場，7月27日上場之後，休息7天在8月4日對光芒中繼1局，在6局下無人出局一、二壘有人上來，被3支安打，其中1支全壘打，失3分有2分責失。
那一場比賽最嚴重是無人出局滿壘，王建民接到投手前反彈球，竟然傳二壘且暴傳，並未傳本壘封殺三壘跑者，該場比賽之後，王建民再次休息7天沒有出賽。
王建民今年出賽33場有5勝0敗、防禦率4.89，42.1局被51支安打，有6支全壘打，25次三振、14次保送，已連續3場比賽都失分。
